What are your plans for Mule Day? It's just around the corner, with the height of the celebrations scheduled for April 10 this year.
We usually start the party off with a breakfast celebration at my brother and SIL's house then move to our favorite spot for the parade. My favorite entry in the parade each year is the man who herds his sheep down the road with nothing but Border Collies. It is something to see!
If you are unfamiliar with this annaul event, Mule Day is a celebration of all things related to Mules and is held in Columbia, Tennessee, the "Mule Capital" of the world. Begun in 1840 (yes, 170 years ago!)as "Breeder's Day," a meeting for mule breeders, it now attracts over 200,000 people and takes place over four days. In addition to mules, traditional Appalachian food, music, dancing, and crafts are featured. I'm thinking about taking off from work on April 2 in order to attend the Liar's Contest.
