Most of the museums in Washington, DC, close at 5:30, but luckily for me I found one open until 7 on the one evening I didn't have work committments, The Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery.
Painting is one of my favorite hobbies and I love original artwork. Never before had I seen original works of Georgia O'Keefe or Grandma Moses or Mary Cassatt. They were all so unique, and I stood in awe of their sheer genius.
What a surprise and delight to turn a corner and see a complete room dedicated to artwork with a very special subject, Tennessee's own Elvis Presley.
Unfortunately photography wasn't allowed in the room, so I took this picture from the hallway.
I have to admit it made me a little homesick.
