"Some of the Lord's followers think one day is more important than another.
Others think all days are special.
But each of you should make up your own mind."
Romans 14:5
I've always loved this scripture because it tells me to keep an eye on the big picture... Love, Grace, Faith, Spirit...and not on the minutia of details that separate some Christians from other Christians.
My friend Debbie's sense of humor is gift. Here is a snippet of the scripture from her perspective...
"God made all the days special
- I get it -
but He knocked it out of the park when He created Wednesdays
- 99 cent day at GoodWill.
- I get it -
but He knocked it out of the park when He created Wednesdays
- 99 cent day at GoodWill.
(It's actually proof God loves us and wants us to be happy, I think.)"
Shop at the GoodWill? It never occurred to me. I had to check it out. As it turns out only clothing is 99 cents on Wednesdays, but I did find some other treasures to share with you today.
The monogrammed flatware was only $3 at the Goodwill. The chicken plates were about $3 each at TJ Maxx. The daisy pfaltzgraf was the first set of dishes my parents purchased as newlyweds nearly 50 years ago, and I cherish the pieces that remain. The wicker chargers were found at Wal-mart. The maroon runner is from my mother's linen cabinet.
Notice the sweet, little wicker valise in the window seat? It was found at the Goodwill for about $6. I love it. It doubled as a small picnic hamper earlier this week for a picnic at Arrington Vineyards.
I purchased this beautiful sunflower for only 75 cents from the most engaging 11-year-old vendor at the farmer's market this morning. The $1 hobnail vase is from Ikea.
The flatware I purchased from the Goodwill is monogrammed with the letter G, which doesn't happen to be any of my initials. My sweet friend Laine kindly brought this to my attention, so I told her presentation is everything. If anyone asks I'll just say it's my grandmother's initial, and I inherited the flatware from her.
After thinking about it, I didn't want to say G was my grandmother's initial because that isn't true. After some consideration another response became obviously clear. G is my initial because I am a child of God.
Either that or it stands for Goodwill, the actually proof God loves us and wants us to be happy. Now that is true.
