For those of you who don't live in middle Tennessee you may not know we have a special home, a 2700 acre sanctuary since 1995, for old, sick or needy elephants retired from zoos and circuses. Howenwald, Tenn, is the nearest town to the nation's largest, natural-habitat refuge for these large and lovable pachyderms.
No longer required to perform for the public, the Elephant Sanctuary's residents simply live as elephants, except for maybe Tarra, who loves to paint.
You may already be familiar with Tarra. She is best friends with Bella, a stray dog that now lives at the sanctuary.
Support and donations for this unique, yet regulated, sanctuary are much appreciated!
