On Sunday I had the special priviledge to participate in the "Hats and Cats" afternoon tea fundraiser to benefit Pet Pals of Maury County.
I displayed paintings and cards, and negotiated commissions, with a portion of the proceeds going to Pet Pals.
During the tea, Sonja Rine declared, as in “We Do Declare…Karin Bogardus You Are “The Cat’s Meow”!!!” Karin received a bone china teapot from England decorated with cats. Karin who has recently retired from rescue. has rescued more than 350 Maury County cats. She took in strays and/or adopted unwanted, sick, injured, or problematic cats from the Maury County Shelter. (Many cats Karin Rescued were older cats whose person had passed away or had been placed in a home and their beloved pet was taken to the shelter. Some rescued cats were special need cats, like Oscar the 48 pound cat. Oscar was too big to fit in a crate in the cat room, and he was terrified of dogs. Karin found the perfect home for Oscar.)
The Hats & Cats Tea Committee include Bonita Kimbrell, Sonja Rine, Sara Elizabeth Hickman McLeod, and Amy Beasley. They are pictured with Dave Skillington, one of the board members of the Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club and serves on the Mule Day Committee. The Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club And Mule Day Committee Awarded Pet Pals Of Maury County A Check For $500 to be used to Spay, Neuter and Vaccinate Maury County Pets.
State Sen. Bill Ketron was slated to accept an award from Pet Pals for introducing several important bills to help animals. He sponsored legislation passed by the General Assembly last year to strengthen penalties against persons convicted of animal cruelty and to stiffen punishment against criminals who use dogs as weapons. Ketron also sponsored legislation to increase penalties against cockfighting or animal fighting. Sen. Ketron recognizes the link between animal cruelty and other forms of violence and knows this is a national concern. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sen. Ketron was delayed in east Tennessee and will be presented with his award at a later date.
Sen. Ketron's award is an original painting of my fur-princess, Tammy Tabby, asleep on a silk pillow in a chair in the corner of my office/studio.
THANK YOU Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club And The Mule Day Committee, Guests and the Hats & Cats Tea Committee!!!
