Last night was the Duck River Patrons' Party for the art show called "A River Runs Through It." The fundraiser is a joint venture between The Chestnut Group and The Nature Conservancy.
It's being held in the Parish Hall of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Columbia, TN.
John McEwen's family allowed the Chestnuts to paint on their farm along the Duck River in Williamsport, and he volunteered last night be our bartender. I need to find out who did the catering. The food was delicious and as beautiful as the paintings.
We sold 17 paintings last night. Yet there are still more than 200 original oil, pastel, acrylic, and watercolors to choose from.
45% of the proceeds are donated to the Nature Conservancy.
Did you know that the Duck River was featured in the February 2010 National Geographic magazine as one of top four places on EARTH to find the most biodiversity in one cubic foot? According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the Duck River is one of three hot spots for fish and mussel diversity in the entire world.
The Duck River is the fresh water source for more than a quarter million people living in Tennessee.
I was thrilled the owner of Fairmont purchased the painting I did of Fairmont called "In the Land of Cotton." It just feels right that this painting should hang in the home that inspired it. Thank you Dr. Pulliam!
The art show and sale continues today through 7pm and again tomorrow from 10am-4pm.
For more information on the Chestnut Group, check out the feature Terry Bulger created and will air this weekend on Tennessee Wild Side.
