September is the New January
September is truly one of the most wonderful times of the year! Attending school is a distant memory, yet "Back to School" excitement still gives me butterflies, and I happily anticipate shopping for new, colorful pens and fresh notebooks, and maybe even a new purse.
And I make plans! Goals, dreams, to-dos, to get better organized, to take a great workshop, to make new friends, to find a yoga class, anything is possible beginning September 1. It's the ultimate clean slate.
Summer has its moments, but it is so disjointed. My friends, family, and painting students are off taking vacations or taking care of children or grandchildren or putting in a garden. They are off on adventures and one very talented and industrious student is building her own house, yes, literally with hammer in hand. Needless to say that during crucial moments of the building process we don't get to paint with her unless it rains.
And then there is the HEAT! As much as I hate to admit it, the oppressive heat zapps much of my creative energy.
September changes all that!
With the flip of a calendar page, the mindset changes. We settle into our routines, become more focused, more motivated. Why make a New Year's Resolution to improve health when the same goal in September is so much easier to achieve? Think about it.... In September there is no holiday exhaustion, no leftovers in the fridge. In September the weather isn't cold and gray, and taking a long walk with your dog or friends is a delightful activity. In September the Farmers Market still has fresh, wholesome produce, and the sun doesn't set at 4:30pm.
Is September the new January in your house? What are your goals?
Imagine the possibilities!!
Susan
